Summer Spa Night: Using Essential Oils to Relax, Unwind & Socialize

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

With our busy daily lives, it's not always easy to find "me" time for ourselves. But this is likely what we all need to keep us refreshed, energized, and feeling our best.

On Monday, June 13th, I organized a spa night at Lma Mineral Float in Southampton, PA, to put aside the week ahead, learn how to take care of ourselves by way of essential oils and other natural products, make new connections, and even indulge in a soothing hand massage.

The evening got off to a great start, with a lovely setup featuring an assortment of teas, chocolate, and baklava, a traditional Israeli dessert, thanks to Lma's Israeli-born owner, Vivi Sadel. Lma's cozy lounge is the ideal spot for a small group. Those who didn't arrive with a friend likely left having made one -- two of our guests, in fact, even learned they share a surprising connection -- making us realize that the world is not always as big as it seems.

I, along with my mother-in-law, Arlene Walters, a Premier Wellness Advocate with doTERRA, led the evening's activities, which included a hands-on introduction to the world of essential oils and their many therapeutic properties. An assortment of oils, as well as additional offerings from doTERRA's spa and On Guard product lines that complement a spa night -- everything from lotions and body butters to mouthwash and body wash -- were on hand to sample either aromatically, topically, or internally.

It's important to note that all essential oils are not created equally. Along with this was an informative explanation of the recommended uses for each oil. All doTERRA essential oils and spa products are third-party tested, 100% pure, Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® (CPTG®), free from harmful additives and toxins.

Of everything presented, doTERRA's Console oil blend seemed to be the evening's favorite, with its sweet but subtle scent -- the perfect enhancement to any spa or home. As its name implies, Console -- made up of Frankincense Resin, Patchouli Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Labdanum Stem/Twig, Amyris Bark, Sandalwood Wood, Rose Flower, and Osmanthus Flower -- is a soothing blend designed to comfort.

Together, as a group, we shared personal stories that explained our motivation for using natural products, while exchanging ideas, insights, and tips. In addition to Arlene and Vivi, we were joined by a close personal friend of mine, Arlene's cousin who coincidentally happens to also be a patient with Preservation Health (Lma's parent facility led by Dr. Keith Sadel), and a close friend of hers. While some of us were more experienced in our knowledge and use of essential oils and other natural products, everyone present had some prior exposure to and experience with one or the other.

Before the night was over, guests were treated to a soothing hand massage demonstrating doTERRA's AromaTouch technique, courtesy of Arlene (as seen in the pic below). A couple of drops of essential oil combined with a carrier oil, either fractionated coconut oil or another oil of your choosing, helps to spread the essential oil and enhance its therapeutic benefits. During this time, the rest of us toured Lma's facility, which includes two private float suites and a lounge with sauna.

In all, it was truly a night to engage all five senses -- and the first of what we hope to be many more events of this type!
